MANCHESTER, NH â Fans of the Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, won't soon forget the 2004-05 season. It began in October and ended four days ago, and in between, fans were treated to countless team and individual accomplishments. Some of the highlights included: The Monarchs clinched their first-ever Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference championships with a 2-1 win over the Worcester IceCats at the DCU Center on April 17.
The Monarchs, who opened the season with 20 wins in their first 21 games, virtually led the Atlantic Division from start to finish.
The Monarchs set franchise records with 51 wins, 28 home wins, 23 road wins and 110 points (51-21-4-4, 110 points). The 51 wins tied for the league lead. The Monarchs franchise record .688 winning percentage was second in the league.
A record six Monarchs (Dustin Brown, Michael Cammalleri, Mathieu Garon, Denis Grebeshkov, Tom Kostopoulos and Yanick Lehoux) participated in the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, hosted by Manchester on February 13-14. In addition to the players, the Monarchs coaching staff (Bruce Boudreau, Jim Hughes and Dane Jackson) and training staff (Chris Kingsley, Mike Holden and Dana Bryson) also represented the organization in the league's signature event.
The Monarchs hosted 17 sellouts and finished second in the league with an average of 9,052 fans per game.
The Monarchs collected a franchise record 258 goals. The team's 3.23 goals-per-game average was second best in the league.
The Monarchs allowed a franchise record low 176 goals. The team's 2.20 goals-against-per-game average was also second best in the AHL.
The Monarchs set a franchise record with 13 shutouts.
The Monarchs set franchise records for longest winning streak (13 games), longest home winning streak (10 games) and longest road winning streak (six games).
For the first time in the history of the franchise, the Monarchs finished with six 20-goal scorers on their roster (Cammalleri-46, Brown-29, Kostopoulos-25, Brad Smyth-23, Lehoux-23, Noah Clarke-21).
Individual Highlights
Cammalleri set franchise records for goals (46), assists (63), points (109) and power play goals (17) in a season.
Cammalleri led the league with 46 goals and his 109 points were second in the circuit. His 63 assists and 17 power play goals were third best in the league.
Cammalleri scored in 66 of the 79 games he skated in and four times he had scoring streaks of at least 10 games. His longest goal-scoring streak of the season lasted seven games (10 goals during the streak). His longest scoring streak of the season lasted 14 games (14-11=25 during the streak).
Defenseman Joe Rullier set a franchise record with 322 penalty minutes. His penalty minutes ranked fifth overall in the league.
Goaltender Mathieu Garon set franchise records for appearances (52), minutes played (2969:10), wins (32) and shutouts (8) in a season.
Goaltender Adam Hauser set franchise records for goals-against-average (1.93) and save-percentage (.933) in a season.
Defenseman Mike Weaver led the Monarchs and finished third in the league with a plus-35 rating.
Grebeshkov led all AHL blueliners with 44 assists. His 49 overall points (5-44=49) tied for fourth in the circuit.
Left wing Chris Schmidt was the only Monarchs player to appear in all 80 regular season games.
Career Records
Cammalleri moved into the No. 1 spot on the Monarchs all-time scoring list with a goal against the Springfield Falcons on April 9. With his 165th point, he passed former Monarchs center Steve Kelly (50-114=164) on the all-time list. Cammalleri has 168 career points (71-97=168) in 133 career regular season games for the Monarchs (2002-05).
Cammalleri moved into the No. 1 spot on the Monarchs career goals list with an overtime game-winning goal against the Portland Pirates on April 6. With that goal, he passed former Monarchs right wing Pavel Rosa (67) on the all-time list. Cammalleri has 71 career goals for the Monarchs (2002-05).
