Mohawk Valley to Host 2015 PGCBL All-Star Game

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) president Jeff Kunion named the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs hosts of the 2015 PGCBL All-Star Game, announced by the league office on Friday.
The 2015 PGCBL All-Star Game, presented by Price Chopper, is scheduled for Monday, July 20 at 6:35 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 247 Burwell Street in Little Falls, N.Y. In addition, Scout Day drills and a home run derby will precede the All-Star Game.
"What a fine testament to the people of Little Falls, the DiamondDawgs organization, the team sponsors and especially the fans who have made summer baseball a must-see event in the Mohawk Valley," said DiamondDawgs owner Travis Heiser in a team-issued press release. "We are thrilled to have been chosen as hosts, and we will make the entire league proud."
"The All-Star Game is a great opportunity for the fans and scouts from Major League Baseball to take a look at some very talented players in the PGCBL," added Kunion in the release. "Many of the All-Stars in this year's game will go on to pro careers in the near future."
The PGCBL All-Star Game will slate the best players from the East Division against the West Division as voted on by the league's head coaches. The East Division team will consist of players from the DiamondDawgs, Albany Dutchmen, Amsterdam Mohawks, Glens Falls Dragons and Saugerties Stallions. The West Division squad will be comprised of players from the Adirondack Trail Blazers, Elmira Pioneers, Newark Pilots, Utica Brewers and Victor RailRiders. The East is 3-0 in the three previous All-Star Games that have used the East vs. West format.
Over the past four seasons, 26 Newark Pilots have participated in the PGCBL All-Star Game, more than any other team in the West Division. Last season, six Pilots were named to the West Division team: infielders Jack Gerstenmaier (Virginia) and Tanner Giesel (Southeastern Community College), outfielder Luis Silverio (Palm Beach State), catcher Samm Wiggins (Houston Baptist), returning relief pitcher Travis Laitar (SUNY Cortland) and 2014 PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Jayson Yano (Stevens). In addition, Newark's head coaches have managed in three out of the four All-Star Games in league history.
The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game, the largest independent scouting service in the country. Last year, more than 1,400 professional players had either worn the uniform of a PGCBL team or participated in a Perfect Game event.
