Minnesota United FC 2 News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- MNUFC2 announced today that defender Geremy Rodas earned a call-up with the Honduras U20 National Team and has been named to the team's final roster ahead of its participation in the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup, which takes place from May 20 - June 11 across cities in the host country of Argentina.
"I have an immense happiness. It's what I've fought for all of these years to be able to achieve all of my dreams and goals, short and long term. To represent Honduras in the World Cup is something beautiful because you are representing your country, your land, your homeland, and there's nothing more beautiful than that. The flag of your country, competing for something at the world level," said MNUFC2 defender Geremy Rodas. "I'm excited that I already see myself singing the beautiful national anthem of Honduras in the World Cup, and that will be something unforgettable."
Rodas, a 19-year-old center back from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, joined MNUFC2 via a one-year loan, through July 2023, in August 2022 from Lobos UPNFM of the Honduras topflight, Liga Nacional. He has previously represented Honduras at the youth level, being named to the Honduras U20 squad. To-date, Rodas has made six appearances for "La Bicolor" while scoring one goal and providing an assist - all during the 2022 Concacaf U20 Championship.
With MNUFC2, Rodas has made four game appearances, all starts, at the center-back position, playing a total of 360 minutes.
"Anytime you get the opportunity to represent your country, it's super exciting. You grow up watching your national team play and those guys are your heroes. Then, to put that jersey on will be a tremendous honor for Geremy," said MNUFC2 Head Coach Cameron Knowles. "To stand there, hear the national anthem play before the game - it's a really big moment. It is also a great opportunity because it'll be a tournament where there will be a lot of eyes on him and a lot of great competition with high stakes, so it'll be good for him to play in. It is a fantastic experience that he's going to be a part of."
This is the ninth time that Honduras has qualified for the global tournament at this age level and the Central American nation seeks to make its way to the knockout stage for the very first time this year. Placed in Group F, Honduras (Concacaf) is set to take on Gambia (CAF), South Korea (AFC) and France (UEFA).
