Subway x MLSE LaunchPad Nutrition Hub

MLSE LaunchPad is a 42,000 sq. ft. 'living lab' to explore and measure how sport can help improve the lives of youth. The facility provides youth access to free sports programs while intentionally developing life skills to support their physical and mental well-being.

The Subway Nutrition Hub at the facility encourages healthy eating habits, promotes positive lifestyle choices and provides a space for hospitality workforce development.

"We are honoured to partner with MLSE Foundation as an extension of our commitment to reducing childhood food insecurity across the country," said Doug Fry, Country Director at Subway Canada. "Together, we're committed to ensuring that underserved communities have access to nutritious food, education and sport."

Launching with a Legendary Bang

On June 15th, MLSE LaunchPad and the Subway Nutrition Hub will celebrate their partnership launch with a kick-off event which will host local youth and families for special programming, including basketball drills, sandwich-making and a special guest appearance by Toronto Raptors alumnus and NBA analyst Alvin Williams.

"The power of sport, basketball, and community is something I've always believed in," said Alvin. "It is truly incredible what MLSE LaunchPad, Subway and the community can achieve when we come together to support our next generation and enable them to be their best."

The Power of Partnership

"Access to sport and nutrition go hand in hand as helpful building blocks to allow youth to reach their full potential," said Lisa Wiele, Managing Director at MLSE LaunchPad. "Alongside Subway, we look forward to continuing to build on our shared goal of promoting a healthier future for our communities through the nutrition hub."

MLSE LaunchPad's Nutrition Hub, located at 259 Jarvis Street, Toronto, was created in 2009 to address the food security needs of LaunchPad members and their families. The program provides access to affordable food, nutrition education, and basic cooking skills. Additionally, the hub is utilized to develop educational programming, which measures and evaluates the impact of food on diet quality and health behaviours.

Fueling Play

Subway Canada is passionate about basketball and knows good food fuels the court. In late 2022, Subway Canada launched multi-year partnerships with the NBA and the Raptors to bring Canadians closer to the game by engaging digital content, dynamic game activations and in-restaurant experiences.
