Mitchell Paces Suns in Saturday Win

Zebulon, N.C. - Lee Mitchell drove in three runs with a pair of doubles leading the Jacksonville Suns (60-45, 20-15) to a 3-1 win over the Carolina Mudcats (47-57, 17-18) in front of 3,594 Saturday night at Five County Stadium.

Elih Villanueva (11-4) picked up his 11th victory of the season, giving up only a sixth inning leadoff home run from Kris Negron and four other hits in six innings of work. Evan Reed, one of two pitchers dealt from the Rangers to the Marlins in exchange for Jorge Cantu on Thursday, made his Marlins organizational debut pitching one and two-thirds scoreless innings before leaving with an injury. Kris Harvey (1) picked up his second career save. Mudcats starter Scott Carroll (3-6) took the losing decision, allowing three runs and four hits over five innings.

Lee Mitchell drove in the first run with a fourth inning double, scoring Brandon Tripp for a 1-0 lead.

Mitchell struck again in the sixth inning against Carroll, driving in Tripp and Vinny Rottino with a double to the left field corner for a 3-0 lead.

Suns infielder Lee Mitchell now has seven RBI in the last two games against Carolina.

Carolina ended the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with the Kristopher Negron leadoff home run for a 3-1 final.
