Mistakes Cost Scorpions

Yuma Scorpions News Release

Yuma, AZ-- The Yuma Scorpions lost again. This time due to too many homeruns given up and major batting errors. Britton gave up 3-runs in the 1st, but he always starts slow before shutting down the opposing team. He gave up a few homeruns as well. Britton wasn't as sharp as he normally is, but he was sufficient before leaving the game with a no decision after 6-innings. The first pitch from Julio Santana wasn't what he was hoping for as he gave up a solo homerun to JJ Sherrill and the Scorpions were quickly behind 9-6.

A rally was seemingly killed in the 8th when Riportella was called out on a close play at first. Jose Canseco quickly left the dugout to argue, but to no avail. The 9th was interesting for the Scorpions as they tried to make a comeback. Camacho led off with a double and then scored on a 6-3 fielder's choice by Carlos Leon. Muse followed with a double. Maui pitcher Rusty Jones was relieved of duty and Clayton Uyechi came in to try and end the game. With the Scorpions down 10-7 at this point Beau Riportella flew out to the first baseman for the second out. Zack Larson came to the plate and just couldn't be patient with a wild pitcher. He was able to get the count to 3-0 before deciding to chop a grounder to third base for a 5-3 game ender.

The Scorpions just can't seem to shake the mental errors this season and drop to 5-12. Fortunately for them, the division leader is slumping as well and the Scorpions are only 5.5 games back. Look for the Scorpions to rebound on Wednesday with the series finale against Maui at 7:35pm.
