Tulsa Drillers News Release
After staging three straight come-from-behind victories, the Tulsa Drillers were on the other end of a rally Wednesday night. Protecting a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning, Tulsa watched as San Antonio scored three times on a 3-run home run by Jesse Hoorelbeke as the Missions ended the Drillers 3-game winning streak with a 4-2 victory before 10,237 fans at Drillers Stadium .
Despite the loss, the first-place Drillers maintained their 5-game lead over Arkansas as Frisco defeated the Travelers 7-4.
Tulsa took its early lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning against Juan Sandoval. With one out, Ryan Spilborghs singled and Sean Barker reached on catcher's interference. Spilborghs then scored the game's first run on a double by Corey Slavik. A sacrifice fly by Alvin Colina plated Barker and gave the Drillers a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Nate Espy doubled with one out against Tulsa starter Christian Parker. An infield single by Jesus Guzman put runners at first and second, but Parker got the second out of the inning when Gary Harris grounded into a force out.
At that point, the Drillers turned to their bullpen and summoned Jentry Beckstead. Missions Designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke greeted Beckstead with a towering drive over the wall in left-center field to give San Antonio a 3-2 lead. It was the 7th homer of the year for Hoorelbeke.
T.J. Bohn made it 4-2 in the eighth inning when he took Beckstead deep for his 4th home run of the season.
For Tulsa, it was a night of missed chances. The Drillers had 10 hits but stranded 14 runners on base, matching a season high. Spilborghs, Slavik, Colina and Doug Bernier all registered two hits in the game.
Parker did not pitch poorly, but surrendered 7 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He was charged with two earned runs, increasing his league-best ERA to 1.41.
Beckstead (3-2) was charged with the loss, surrendering two runs and three hits in two innings of work. Judd Songster finished the game with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Sandoval, the Missions' starter, evened his record at 3-3 with the victory, and Emiliano Fruto gained his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Drillers will conclude their homestand Thursday night against the Missions. Thomas Oldham (2-4, 3.79) is the scheduled starter for San Antonio, while Sandy Nin (1-2, 7.36) will take the mound for Tulsa. Starting time for the finale will be 7:05PM.
