Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - With a strong start from lefty Austin Krob , the Missions held Corpus Christi to four hits Tuesday evening, dispatching the Hooks, 6-2, before 5,537 fans at Wolff Stadium.
Krob retired the first 15 in order, with seven outs coming on the ground and two by way of strikeout.
Back-to-back singles by Colin Barber and Zach Daniels began the sixth, accounting for Corpus Christi's first baserunners. Three batters later, rehabbing Astro Chas McCormick lifted a sac fly to deep center field, cutting the Hooks deficit to 5-1. Pascanel Ferreras then cued an infield hit up the third base line to plate Daniels.
McCormick bounced out and struck out in his first two plate appearance. In his five innings roaming center field, McCormick made a nifty grab by racing in on a sinking line drive, taking a lead-off hit away in the fourth.
Hooks hurlers, who permitted only four hits, were undone by 11 walks.
In the wake of throwing 34 pitches in a three-run first, Corpus Christi starter Tyler Guilfoil settled in by keeping SA off the scoreboard in the second, third, and fourth. A lead-off free pass in the fifth ended his day.
Kasey Ford turned in a quality performance out of the Hooks pen. After walking the first batter in the sixth, Ford retired the next six batters in order, striking out two, to finish his outing.
