SPRINGFIELD--Justin Hancock and a pair of relievers helped the Missions split their season-opening six game road trip Tuesday afternoon in front of 3,972 at Hammons Field.
Hancock tied a career high by working seven innings. The right-hander allowed seven hits and didn't walk a batter after issuing a career-high six walks on opening night.
Chris Nunn and Brandon Alger each worked a perfect inning to preserve the club's first shutout of the year. Alger notched the save.
Alberth Martinez homered to left to open the scoring in the fifth inning.
The Missions tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Casey McElroy and an RBI groundout from Diego Goris.
San Antonio took two of three in the series and have won seven of the last nine at Hammons Field.
The team is off Wednesday and plays its home opener Thursday night.
NOTES: The Missions bullpen combined for eight straight scoreless innings in the series after Casey Kelly was charged with four runs on Sunday....Reliever Adam Cimber rejoined the team from Triple-A while pitcher Stephen Kolscheen was promoted to El Paso.
