Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Corpus Christi Hooks will add a player from the SEC to their roster next Monday.

Tyler Badger, a 21-year-old student who attends the University of Georgia and hails from Atlanta, joins Houston Astros executive advisor Nolan Ryan and president Reid Ryan for a news conference that day at Whataburger Field, where he'll sign a one-day contract with the club.

Badger won the 2015 Topps Company's Make Your Pro Debut Contest.

Tyler, mother Roxanne Meeker, and 11-year-old brother Jared are scheduled to arrive Sunday.

Monday, it's a tour of Whataburger Field, a meeting with the Hooks press corps, batting practice, hanging out in the clubhouse, and watching the Corpus Christi-Tulsa game from the dugout, pressbox, and owner's suite. Tyler is scheduled to go on-air with team radio play-by-play man Michael Coffin.

Tyler will also present the Hooks' lineup card at home plate and toss out a ceremonial first pitch.

Topps commemorates his experience with an official "Pro Debut" baseball card, unveiled in the 2015 minor league release of "Topps Pro Debut."

"Our first partnership with Topps, major league baseball, and minor league baseball a couple of years ago enabled Tim Kane to fly down with his eight-year-old son, Peyton, from Maryland," Hooks president Ken Schrom recalled. "That was such a neat deal for all involved. We are delighted to be a part of this again. It's always fun to share Hooks Baseball with others, and we look forward to extending a great experience to Tyler and his family."
