Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS-Off a close 5-4 victory Sunday night, San Antonio (24-20, 52-62) scored early and often against Frisco (20-24, 61-53) as the 'Riders fell in the series finale 12-4 Monday night at Wolff Municipal Stadium. In the game, the Missions scored runs in each of the first four innings, before using a four-run seventh to put the contest away.
Frisco scored a pair of runs off right-hander Eddie Kunz (3-4) in the top of the first. Engel Beltre, named the "Topps Texas League Player of the Month" earlier in the day, led off the game with a double, and moved to third on a fielder's choice. Kunz then proceeded to fall behind to Jared Hoying, before the ex-Toledo Rocket deposited a 1-0 pitch over the rightfield wall. It marked the ninth time in 10 games that Frisco had taken the lead first.
Behind 2-0, San Antonio would even the score in the home half of the inning. With a runner at third, Nate Freiman belted his 22nd home run off Neil Ramirez (1-3). It was the first baseman's second longball against the 'Riders this season.
Far from finished, the Missions would add three more runs in the second, as well as an additional tally in third. Jonathan Galvez accounted for three of the four runs, with a home run to left, while Jeudy Valdez brought home Rymer Liriano in the third on a sacrifice fly.
Tommy Mendonca added a sac-fly for the RoughRiders in the fourth to trim the deficit to three, but the Missions rebuilt their lead to five later in the inning, on a two-run single by Rymer Liriano.
Steve Buechele's club would muster a single run in fifth, before San Antonio scored four runs in the seventh to put the game on ice. In the inning, Jeremy Rodriguez recorded his first Double-A RBI, and Nate Freiman added his league leading 92nd.
Eddie Kunz picked up his third TL win of the season, working 6.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned). He walked two and struck out one. Neil Ramirez suffered the loss, going three innings while surrendering six run on seven hits.
Frisco will have a scheduled off-day on Tuesday, before beginning a three game series against the Tulsa Drillers Wednesday night. Cody Buckel (2-5, 5.23) makes his sixth start as a member of the RoughRiders and will be opposed by sinkerballer Parker Frazier (4-12, 3.97). The son of a former big leaguer, Frazier allowed three earned runs over seven innings in his last start against the 'Riders (May 30). First pitch is slated for 7:05 from ONEOK Field, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.
The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on August 15, when the team begins a six-game homestand against the Tulsa Drillers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals. For ticket information, please call (972) 731-9200 or visit ridersbaseball.com.
