Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(SAN ANTONIO, Texas) - The next-to-last game of the regular season played Saturday night in San Antonio is not destined for the time capsule. The Hooks committed three errors and a balk, threw three wild pitches and hit into three double plays during a 7-2 loss to the Missions. Corpus Christi stands at 34-35 in the second half and 75-63 overall.

The result locked up the season series for San Antonio for a second straight year over the Hooks. The Missions have won 15 of the 27 games played between the two clubs this season, winning nine of 13 at Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Outside of three shutout innings of relief from Josh Muecke during the middle frames, not much good took place for the Hooks on Saturday. Muecke, coming on in the fourth for starter Carlos Hernandez, allowed two hits and two walks while recording two strikeouts. The lefty kept the Hooks close, as Corpus Christi trailed 3-2 throughout Muecke's performance.

The Missions put the game away in the seventh when they scored three runs on only one hit - an RBI single by Mike Wilson. Two walks, a balk, a wild pitch and two fielder's choice RBI ground balls added up to three runs and a 6-2 Missions' lead.

Hernandez (0-2) looked better than he did in his recent relief appearances, but still suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks during his three innings on the hill. He also struck out three.

Corpus Christi notched its two runs in the second on a Josh Bonifay RBI single and a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Wade Robinson. For Bonifay, the RBI was his 75th this season.

Hooks' catcher Kevin Davidson exited the game in the bottom of the first when he was struck on the head with Wladimir Balentien's bat when Balentien swung at and missed a pitch. Davidson suffered a cut on the upper left side of his head and was replaced in the lineup by Brian Peterson. Missions' first baseman Marshall Hubbard also left the game early after tweaking his right hamstring.

The two clubs wrap up the regular season Sunday night at 6:05. Josh Miller (10-10, 4.29) will get the ball for the Hooks, while the Missions will end their season with lefty Ryan Feierabend (9-10, 4.41) on the hill.
