GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Victor Nogueira, San Diego Sockers

Nogueira earns his fifth Goalkeeper of the Week Award of the season thanks to a fine performance in a 5-3 win over the Eastern Division-leading Baltimore Blast at home on Saturday night. Nogueira turned away 24 of 27 shots (.889 save percentage) in the contest, and saved 16 of 17 shots in the second half against a Blast offense which is averaging 6.5 goals per game, tied for the League lead. As of Monday morning, the 44-year-old Nogueira was fourth in the MISL in both goals against average (4.59) and wins (11), third in minutes played (1,400) and save percentage (.741), and second with 306 saves. The native of Mozambique, who will play for the MISL International All-Star team in the 2004 All-Star Game on February 29, was also named the Goalkeeper of the Week on November 10, December 1, December 15, and December 22, and was named the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Month for December.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Omid Namazi, Cleveland Force

The 38-year-old Namazi scored two points (goal, assist) and blocked seven shots as Cleveland went 1-1 last week. In a 5-3 loss in Philadelphia on Wednesday, Namazi blocked three shots. The former KiXX player/coach played a large role in Cleveland's 7-6 win over Dallas on Sunday, finishing with a goal, an assist, and four blocked shots. In 11 games with the Force, the native of Washington, DC, has scored six points (goal, five assists) and blocked 21 shots. Namazi, a two-time All-League selection and the 2000-01 Defender of the Year, is the second Force player to win weekly defensive honors this season; Josh Timbers (November 3) was the first.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Martin Nash, Dallas Sidekicks

Nash continued a recent hot streak with six goals in two games over the weekend, including his second straight four-goal outing in a 6-5 double overtime loss in Milwaukee on Saturday night. He added a pair of scores as the Sidekicks fell 7-6 in Cleveland on Sunday. The 28-year-old has registered 11 goals over the course of a four-game goal-scoring streak, and now has 19 goals and 33 points (tied for 11th in the MISL and the team lead) on the season. The native of Vancouver becomes the third Sidekick to win Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2003-04, joining David Doyle (October 6) and Nick Stavrou (January 5).
