Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

The Ice Flyers and Ice Bears battled brilliantly in Pensacola Saturday night, with the home team winning 4-3 in overtime. Lorne Misita notched four points and one of his two goals was the game-winner. With the win, the Ice Flyers move into sole possession of fourth place.

Both teams came out swinging in the first period but Knoxville would score first. Just 1:14 into the game Tyler Barr and David Segal came to fisticuffs. With the pugilists on the bench, Frank Furdero received a nice lead pass from former Ice Flyer Taylor Hustead and had only the goalie to beat. With a flick of the wrist Furdero deposited the puck in the net and the Ice Bears had the first lead at 2:46.

At 5:24 in the initial frame, Matt Withers and Travis Hanson got into it, putting both men in the penalty box for five minutes. Another fight broke out a minute and a half later when Barr and Segal went for round two. The fight inspired Pensacola, and Kevin Kozlowski fired a shot from the left point that Dan Buccella redirected into the goal to tie the game at 7:01 in the first period. Lorne Misita also earned an assist on the play.

After the first intermission Pensacola gained their first lead of the game at 4:34 off a powerplay. Lorne Misita set up Rob Campbell beautifully with a centering pass from the right side. Campbell used a wrister to put the puck in the left side of the top shelf and give Pensacola a 2-1 lead. Knoxville would not only tie it with a goal from Kevin Harris at 7:14, but Kevin Swider put Knoxville back on top with a goal at 13:45. In between the goals Travis Martell and Joey Hughes fought each other for the fourth installment of the evening?s violence.

With a minute and a half left in the second period, the Ice Flyers had a 3-1 rush. Rob Campbell thanked Misita for his pass earlier by setting up Misita on the near side. Misita didn?t miss, and the 3-3 tie would hold not just into the second intermission, but the third as well.

Despite 11 Pensacola shots (and seven by Knoxville) the third period ended without a score change and overtime ensued. With vigorous back and forth both teams battled until Anthony Monte skated towards the right circle of Knoxville?s zone. Lorne Misita cut through the slot and Monte threaded the puck to him. Misita took a half second before ending the game, slicing the puck into the net to give Pensacola the victory at 3:36. Misita?s goal in the overtime period was number 24 of the year and put him into sole possession of third place in the league leader board, one ahead of Kevin Swider.
