Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
(LAKELAND, FL) - The Fort Myers Miracle salvaged the final game of a four-game set in Lakeland as they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday evening at Henley Field.
The Miracle snapped a scoreless tie in the third inning. Three straight singles by Alex Perez, Brian Navarreto, and T.J. White loaded the bases with one out, and Perez then came in to score on a ground out off the bat of Edgar Corcino.
Fort Myers increased their advantage one inning later. Joe Maloney reached on an error to lead off the inning, and Chris Paul followed with a single. Alex Real then doubled to left to score Maloney, and when Perez grounded out to drive in Paul two batters later, the Miracle's lead increased to 3-0.
White homered to left-center field lead off the seventh to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Flying Tigers did stage a late rally by scoring solo runs in the eighth and ninth innings to close to within 4-2, but they could get no closer.
White and Nick Gordon led the Miracle's 12-hit attack with three hits apiece, while Navarreto and Perez added two apiece.
Felix Jorge (6-3) was the starting and winning pitcher for the Miracle. He tossed seven-and-two-third strong innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out six without allowing a walk. Brandon Peterson pitched the final inning-and-one-third, recording all four of his outs on strikeouts, to earn his fourth save.
The Miracle (31-33) will now close out this nine-game road trip on Thursday night with a 6:30 p.m. game in Bradenton against the South Division-leading Bradenton Marauders. The game will not be broadcast on www.miraclebaseball.com.
