Florida Fire Frogs News Release

KISSIMMEE, FL: The Florida Fire Frogs rallied from three runs down and dramatically tied the game in the ninth, but a productive tenth helped the Fort Myers Miracle hold on for the 7-5 triumph in the set opener at Osceola County Stadium.

The Miracle and Fire Frogs traded runs in the first. Royce Lewis, the Twins first round selection in 2017, smoked a leadoff homer to left off LHP Philip Pfeifer to open the scoring. Florida countered in the bottom of the stanza with an RBI groundout from William Contreras, scoring Izzy Wilson, to tie it at 1.

Fort Myers catapulted out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth. Michael Helman tripled in Ryan Jeffers and Jose Miranda. Helman came across on a sacrifice fly from Aaron Whitefield to fill the frame.

Pfeifer scattered ten hits and four earned runs with no walks and six strikeouts over six innings while not factoring in the decision.

Then came the long balls. Contreras and Greyson Jenista went back-to-back in the sixth with solo shots off RHP Edwar Colina to trim the Miracle lead to 4-3. This was the first instance in which Florida has hit consecutive home runs in a game this season.

Colina also didn't factor in the decision, surrendering eight hits and three runs with seven punchouts.

RHP Kurt Hoekstra didn't allow a run while tossing two frames. He worked out of a big jam in the eighth to keep it a one-run game. RHP Sean McLaughlin permitted a base runner in the ninth but didn't give him the opportunity to score.

The Fire Frogs scratched across the tying run with two outs in the ninth. Kevin Josephina singled to leadoff the stanza and moved up on a passed ball and a groundout to third. A wild pitch from RHP Hector Lujan scored the eager Josephina and sent the game to extras, 4-4.

McLaughlin (1-2) couldn't wiggle out of trouble in the tenth. Trevor Larnach, Helman, and David Banuelos all brought in tallies with run-producing singles.

Larnach went 4-5 with a double. Banuelos had a three-hit night in his sixth game with Fort Myers.

Riley Delgado picked up an RBI in the bottom of the tenth that plated Brett Langhorne to provide the final margin.

Lujan (2-3) blew the save opportunity but picked up the win while recording six outs and not allowing an earned run.
