Miracle Jump out to Big Lead, Beat Mets 6-3

FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Fort Myers jumped out to a big lead and went on to beat the St. Lucie Mets 6-3 on Sunday at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle scored four runs with two outs in the third inning against Justin Dunn to take command of the game. The inning was capped off by a two-run homer from Zander Weil.

Miracle starter Sean Poppen cruised for most of the game. He pitched 6.1 innings and allowed one run on five singles.

The Mets had a chance to put a dent in the 6-0 Miracle lead in the seventh inning. Michael Paez drew a bases loaded walk with one out to make it 6-1. However, J.C. Rodriguez struck out and John Mora flew out to end the threat.

Peter Alonso hit a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth to cut the deficit to 6-3 but the Mets would go quietly the rest of the way.

Dunn gave up six runs in five innings.

Reliever Johnny Magliozzi pitched three scoreless innings to save the bullpen.

The Mets (8-15, 41-50) will try to avoid the sweep when they meet the Miracle (17-5, 50-40 in the series finale on Monday. First pitch from Hammond Stadium is 11:05 a.m.
