Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (May 12, 2006) - Every kid dreams of stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, game seven of the World Series, bases loaded and a full count. The end result of that dream is a grand slam to win the game as the crowd chants your name. Now, everyone can realize that dream as Miracle Baseball is hosting a home run derby sponsored by the Nokona Bat Company, WRQC and WUSV following the Sunday, May 21 game.
Teams of five will gather on the diamond at Hammond Stadium and square off against each other in a battle of the long ball. For $25 a person or $100 per team, participants will get a chance to hit on a professional baseball field, an event T-shirt, a chance to win prizes such as gift certificates, baseball memorabilia and much more. Receive prizes and goodies from local stores, bars and restaurants and game tickets for the Sunday, May 21 game against the St. Lucie Mets at 1:05 p.m.
"This is one of those events where people of all ages can enter and have a lot of fun," said Miracle General Manager Steve Gliner. "Whether you're competitive or just want an opportunity to take a few swings at a professional ballpark, this is an incredible event for people in Southwest Florida."
Registration for the Home Run Derby will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Hammond Stadium and will begin roughly at 4:00 p.m. The top team of five will win a catered sky suite party to a 2006 Miracle home game and everyone will have a chance to win a pair of tickets to a 2006 World Series Game.
