Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
JUPITER, FL - Edgar Ibarra and Alex Wimmers combined to five-hit the Palm Beach Cardinals, as the Miracle notched their third shutout of the season with a 6-0 victory on Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Miracle (16-26, 50-62), who had also lost 14 of their previous 15. It was the first time Fort Myers had recorded a shutout since they blanked the Charlotte Stone Crabs 4-0 on June 27th at Hammond Stadium.
In one of his best outings of the year - Ibarra (3-8) tossed five shutout innings - while limiting the Cardinals to three scattered hits to notch the win. Wimmers allowed only three base runners the rest of the way, qualifying for a four-inning save. Wimmers struck out six batters, allowed two hits, and walked only one batter.
Cardinals starter Eric Fornataro (6-11) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Oswaldo Arcia broke a scoreless game in the third with a two-out RBI double to score Aaron Hicks. Arcia added a second two-out RBI single in the fifth to put the Miracle ahead 2-0. Steve Liddle thumped a sixth inning two-run home run, his second of the year, to put Fort Myers up 4-0.
The Miracle added their final two runs in the ninth as Estarlin De Los Santos hit an RBI double against reliever Chris Corrigan, and James Beresford drove him in with a single into center field.
Fort Myers returns to action in Palm Beach (23-20, 52-60) as the Miracle look for their first series win in their last five. First pitch Sunday night is set for 5:05 p.m.
