(PORT ST. LUCIE ,FL) - Champ Stuart had two hits and scored twice, while Amed Rosario also added two hits and drove in two runs, to lead the St. Lucie Mets to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle in the opening game of a three-game series at Tradition Field on Friday night.

For the third straight road game, the Miracle grabbed the lead in the very first inning. Tanner Witt led off the game with a single to right field, took second on a ground out, and scored on Nick Gordon's ground-rule double down the left field line for an early 1-0 advantage.

The Mets answered in their half of the third with a pair of runs to take the lead for good. Tomas Nido led off with a ground-rule double to right, and then scored two batters later on yet another ground-rule double, this off the bat of Stuart. After a ground out sent Stuart to third, Rosario reached on an infield single to third, scoring Stuart, and the Mets led 2-1.

St. Lucie added an insurance run in the eighth, thanks again to both Stuart and Rosario. Stuart led off the frame with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored on an infield single to shortstop by Rosario.

The Miracle did put two different runners on base in the top of the ninth, but a double-play ball hurt their chances as they were unable to push across the tying run.

Starting pitcher Felix Jorge (2-3) suffered the loss, pitching seven-and-one-third innings, allowing six hits and all three Mets' runs while walking two and striking out five. Offensively, Witt and Gordon each had two hits to lead Fort Myers' seven-hit attack.

The Miracle and Mets will meet again at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night at Tradition Field in the second game of this series. Lefty Randy Rosario (2-3) is scheduled to pitch for Fort Myers. The game will not be broadcast on MiracleBaseball.com, but fans can listen to the St. Lucie Mets broadcast network and former Miracle employee Adam MacDonald at www.stluciemets.com.
