Minot Skyrockets Use the First Overall Pick to Select Dayshawn Wright

Minot, ND - September 26, 2006 - The Minot Skyrockets of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) participated in a six round rookie draft. The Skyrockets used the first overall pick of the 2006 CBA Rookie Draft to select Dayshawn Wright out of Syracuse. Wright was a high school phenom and played college basketball at Syracuse University. He is a 6-6, 232 lb. power forward, and he recently decided to become an early entry draft candidate to pursue a professional career. As a high school senior, Wright led his Oak Hill Academy team to a 38-0 record and won the national championship. He was ranked 11th among power forwards by and 90th in the 2004 class by Prep Stars. Wright played in the 2004 Empire State Games and the 2003 USA Men's Basketball Youth Development Festival.

"He was a high school standout and played behind great players at Syracuse. I think he was a sleeper in this draft, and he will be a force in this league," said Coach Chris Daleo.

Also selected in the draft was Dee Brown. The Skyrockets used their second round pick to secure the CBA rights to Brown in hopes that he will choose the CBA if his current team, the Utah Jazz, waive him. Brown is 6-0, 185 lb. Guard from the University of Illinois. The Utah Jazz selected him the second round (46th overall), and The Sporting News named him National Player of the Year. He was also selected as a First Team All-American and Defensive Player of the Year.

Other Skyrockets picks included: 3rd Round - Marco Killingsworth from the University of Indiana, 4th Round - Ryan Hollins from UCLA, 5th Round - Pele Paelly from Coastal Carolina, 6th Round - Ed Nelson from University of Connecticut.
