Puget Sound Sports acquires three CBA franchises
September 26, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Vancouver Dragons News Release
(Seattle, WA)-Puget Sound Sports and Entertainment, LLC (PSSE) has acquired the exclusive market rights to three expansion franchises in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The Vancouver (B.C.) Dragons will begin play in the 2006-07 CBA season, while the Bend, OR franchise will begin play in the 2007-08 CBA season, followed by Seattle, WA in 2008-09.
PSSE President and CEO, Michael Tuckman, commented on his company's re-admission to the CBA, "We're thrilled to be making a long term commitment to this league. The CBA has survived four wars, eleven presidents and Isaiah Thomas, and is even stronger today after the departure of four of its top teams at the end of last season."
The CBA is the oldest professional basketball league in the world. Founded in 1946, prior to the NBA, the 2006-07 season will be the CBA's 61st consecutive year of operation. The league has expanded to 10 teams and anticipates adding as many as a dozen more franchises in the coming years. Vancouver will join expansion teams: Indiana Alleycats, Pittsburgh Xplosion, Great Falls (MT) Explorers, Minot (ND) Skyrockets, Butte (MT) Daredevils and Atlanta Krunk Wolverines.
Tuckman, the 2004-05 American Basketball Association (ABA) Executive of the Year, will also serve as Co-general partner of West Coast Sports Holdings, Inc, the parent company of the Vancouver franchise, and as President and CEO of Professional Basketball Club of Vancouver, Limited Partnership, the owner and operator of the team.
