Minnesota United FC News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota United is proud to announce its partnership with Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare for the upcoming season. Together, Gillette and United will give patients and their families unique game day and community experiences.
"It's great to be involved with the Loons. They're a young team with lots of energy, just like our patients," says Dennis Jolley, vice president of institutional advancement at Gillette. "Connecting our patients with top-level athletes like Jamie Watson and Danny Cruz, as well as the rest of the team, means inspiring each other to get out there and achieve the best-no matter what the circumstance."
During the 2016 season, United will host a patient family from Gillette Children's at each home game. After watching the match, the family will get exclusive access to the field for autographs, to take pictures, and meet and greet with United players.
"I'm so excited to be a part of this partnership with Gillette children's Specialty Healthcare," said Minnesota United midfielder Jamie Watson. "Having an older brother with cerebral palsy, my life was greatly affected by the wonderful work done at places like Gillette. To have an opportunity to help give back to a wonderful organization who not only helps those in need, but the families involved as well, is something I'm truly honored to be a part of."
Minnesota United players and staff will also visit patients at various Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare locations around the Twin Cities throughout the year.
"I am extremely excited about this partnership," said Danny Cruz, Minnesota United midfielder. "One of the most rewarding things about our job is to see the smiles we are able to put on kids from all over. What these kids sometimes don't realize is the inspiration we get from them. I am looking forward to meeting some new friends at Gillette and seeing this partnership grow."
Founded in 1897, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare was the nation's first hospital for children with disabilities. They specialize in caring for children, teens, and adults with disabilities and complex medical conditions. They have been honored with several local and national awards for their caregiving and supportive environment.
