Minnesota United Looks to Extend Streaks on Saturday
September 11, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Friday, September 11th, 2015) -- Minnesota United (5W-4T-2L, 19pts.) enter Saturday's home contest against the Carolina RailHawks (3W-3T-6L, 12pts.) riding a pair of positive streaks. The Loons have not been shutout in a match in 19 North American Soccer League (NASL) matches - a modern-era NASL record. The last 5 matches of that streak have seen the Loons undefeated. Minnesota has won three of its past five matches while drawing against Edmonton twice. This Saturday the Loons will look to extend both streaks and come away with another three points in the push to the Championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT - fans can watch all the action live on KSTC45-TV and ESPN3.
The Minnesota United offense has been on fire this season, leading the NASL in goals scored with 37-including a 21-match scoring streak in all competitions. Led by the 2014 Golden Boot winner Christian Ramirez, twelve different players have scored for Minnesota United in 2015.
It's a bit of a redemption game for Minnesota United after dropping a match to the RailHawks in the first week of the Fall Season in a 3-1 shelling. Carolina scored two goals early and kept pressure on the Loons for a full 90 minutes and made it difficult for Minnesota to mount any type of comeback. Despite Daniel Mendes finding the back of the net to cut Carolina's lead in half and a late red card for the RailHawks, the Loons could not draw the match even and missed out on all three points.
For Carolina, the Fall Season has been inconsistent and difficult. The RailHawks ended a four-match losing streak on Saturday, defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-0. Carolina has averaged just one point a match in the Fall Season, with eleven points in eleven matches played. Sitting in seventh position in the Fall Season standings and sixth in the combined table, the RailHawks are dangerously close to falling out of playoff contention altogether.
Expect a competitive and high-paced match on Saturday, with two teams entering NSC Stadium desperate to capture as many points as possible in the final third of the season.
