JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Minnesota United battled back from a two-goal deficit to tie the Jacksonville Armada 3-3. A pair of goals and man advantage helped United secure a point late on the road.
"I'm really proud of the guys-they played like warriors tonight," said United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "We made a few mental errors and found ourselves down, but it was great to see the effort and energy in the second half. We had the belief that we could come back and nearly got the winner on the road."
Minnesota was forced to make a change in goal after Sammy Ndjock went down in warmups, giving Mitch Hildebrandt his third start of the year. Hildebrandt wasn't given any time to settle into the match as the Armada pressed the attack right away, netting the first goal in the 5th minute.
Minnesota was able to equalize in the 21st minute with Christian Ramirez scoring in his fourth straight match. A minute later, the Armada put Hildebrandt under pressure again. The United keeper was able to dribble around one Jacksonville player, but his clearance found Akeil Barrett who tapped home to reclaim the lead for the Armada.
The game looked out of reach with 18 minutes remaining when Keita was able to get a third goal for the Armada off of a first time shot. However, just a few minutes later, United cut the Jacksonville lead in half after a cross from Justin Davis slipped past Armada goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo and into the back of the net.
The streak of opponent ejections continued as United got a man advantage with five minutes remaining when Shawn Nicklaw was given his second yellow. Minnesota quickly took used its extra man to tie the match up a minute later with a shot through traffic from Ibson, his third in three matches.
