Minnesota United FC News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Saturday, October 11th, 2014 ) -- After four straight victories, Minnesota United was defeated 2-0 by hosts Indy Eleven. Goals scored by Victor Pineda and Jhulliam gave Indy the advantage to earn its first home win.
United got off to a strong start, but it was Indy that would strike first in the match. Indy striker Charlie Rugg cut toward the Minnesota goal along the end line of the field and found midfielder Victor Pineda cutting across the box. Pineda took a quick shot and beat United goalkeeper Matt VanOekel to give Indy the 1-0 lead.
Minnesota had several excellent chances to tie the match, but tremendous goalkeeping by Kristian Nicht of Indy Eleven, particularly with his left foot, kept United scoreless in the first half.
It only got better for Indy as it scored almost immediately after the start of the second half. Don Smart played in a quick cross to the forward Jhulliam, who just entered the match. The ball was launched past VanOekel and Indy doubled its lead.
United failed to capitalize on chances as the match went on, and Nicht kept Indy in the lead with more great saves to preserve the lead and give the Eleven its first NASL home victory.
United will face the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday, then return home on Saturday the 18th. Tickets for this match and the playoff match on November 8th are available now! Visit MNUnitedFC.com/tickets or call 763.4SOCCER today to reserve your seats.
