Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx announced today that the second annual Lynx Ballerz Tour Live will commence Thursday, Dec. 4 with the first of 17 scheduled tour stops at Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, Minn.
In its second year, The Lynx Ballerz Tour Live is one of many off-season initiatives designed to build one basketball community in the state of Minnesota.
"We are very excited to bring back the Lynx Ballerz Tour Live to the girls basketball teams in Minnesota," said Lynx Chief Operating Officer Conrad Smith. "The Tour is just one example of our commitment to the support of the youth around the state, and it is another step in our efforts to unite the Minnesota Lynx with the high school and youth basketball communities in Minnesota. The Tour will shine the spotlight on girls basketball at local high schools, where the future stars of the WNBA are already competing."
Over a period of 13 weeks, the Lynx will stop at 17 girls high school basketball games as part of the Lynx Ballerz Tour Live, meeting with players, families and fans to bring the fun and excitement of Lynx Basketball to high school gyms across the state. Lynx players, including forward Nicole Ohlde, along with Head Coach Don Zierden and mascot Prowl, will join in the excitement at various stops on the Tour. The Tour includes stops at defending Class AAA champion Totino-Grace and Class AAAA third place winner Eastview, as well as traditional powerhouses Hopkins, Edina and Champlin Park.
The Lynx will meet with both teams at each stop to offer a pregame pep talk and answer questions. The Lynx will immerse fans in the experience of a WNBA game at each Tour stop, including autograph sessions, awarding raffle prizes, tossing Lynx T-shirts into the crowd, as well as basketball clinics to select stops on the Tour.
"We are honored to be part of the Minnesota Lynx Ballerz Tour," said Shannon Hartinger, Totino-Grace High School girls basketball head coach. "The Minnesota Lynx create such a positive impact on our young ladies and serve as an example to our whole community. It will be a real treat for our players and fans to have an opportunity to meet some of the Lynx players and get a taste of the highest level, as WNBA players. We are thrilled to see the Ballerz Tour Live make a stop here at Totino-Grace High School and every high school should take advantage of this opportunity."
