Lake Erie Crushers News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, fell in a pitcher's duel against the Southern Illinois Miners, 3-0, on Friday night. The Crushers (13-18) were shut out for the second time this season, while the Miners (11-20) evened up the season series at two games apiece.
The Miners opened the scoring in the third with a two-out rally. London Lindley knocked a base hit through the left side of the infield, and Craig Massey followed with a double to right-center to give Southern Illinois a 1-0 lead.
The Miners added to their lead in the sixth. After a one-out single from Massey, Kurt Wertz, Jr., launched a homer to right-center, giving the Miners a 3-0 advantage.
The Crushers threatened in the eighth, putting two on with two outs. After Connor Hofmann was hit with a pitch, Tanner Lubach singled to put runners, but a groundout from Parker Norris ended the threat.
Steve Hagen took a tough luck loss for Lake Erie. Hagen (3-2) surrendered three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts in eight innings of work.
The Crushers continue their weekend set with the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday. Jordan Kurokawa (2-1, 2.55) will start game two for Lake Erie with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 EDT.
