Sussex County Miners News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The Sussex County Miners (38-19) jumped on the New Jersey Jackals early and often, as they tie club records for runs and hits in a single game, as well as setting the mark for largest margin of victory in a 18-1 romp at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday night.

Every single Miner scored at least one run and one hit, with Christian Correa leading the hit brigade with four hits. Jayce Ray and Daniel Mateo had three hits each, with both hitting home runs in the contest. Audy Ciriaco and Connor Crane had two hits each, with Ciriaco hitting a home run as well. The Can-Am's leading hitter, Martin Figueroa, had a base hit as well as Mikey Reynolds and Breland Almadova. Mateo led the Miners with six RBIs, and the Miners as a team were credited with 17 RBIs on the night. Sussex County also had eight players score at least two runs, with Ray scoring three times in the game.

On the pitching end, Jordan Cummings went seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out five batters in the contest. Martire Garcia pitched two perfect innings in relief to finish the rout for Sussex County, who - coupled with Quebec's loss - moved three and one-half games clear of the Capitales for first place in the Can-Am League.

The eighteen runs ties the franchise mark for most runs in a game, set earlier this season on June 9th against the Dominican Republic touring team. The eighteen hits has tied the club record that was set twice in team history. The seventeen run margin of victory was the largest in Miners history, breaking the mark of sixteen set in that June 9th game against the Dominican Republic.

The Miners and Jackals will face off again tomorrow evening at Yogi Berra Stadium, with a 7:05 first pitch scheduled for the two sides.
