Miners acquire pitcher from Surf Dawgs

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Kevin Cassidy from the San Diego Surf Dawgs. San Diego will not receive a player in return, based on a deal that was made during spring training.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound righty from Paso Robles, California has pitched in 15 games with the Surf Dawgs this season. He is currently 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA and has walked 8 while striking out 21 in 24.2 innings of work. Cassidy, 24, began his professional baseball career last season with Evansville of the Frontier League.

To make room on the roster, the Miners have released rookie pitcher Tony Harvot. In two games with Mesa, he was 0-0 with a 15.43 ERA.
