Long Beach, CA: In a public display of appreciation, cooperation and friendly competition the Long Beach Police Officer Association, Long Beach Fire Department and Long Beach Armada will be hosting Public Safety night at Blair Field Saturday, July 16th at 7:05pm.

The evening will feature a pre-game softball competition (5:30pm) between the Police and Fire departments featuring each department Chief. There will also be an exhibit of historic and modern Police and Fire department memorabilia, including an antique firetruck and police squad car, police helicopter and in-between inning demonstrations by both groups.

"Over the past several years we (Fire Department and Police Department) have competed in various friendly competitions. This is a fantastic opportunity to play at Blair Field, and have the community come out and support us", said Paul Rodriguez, Public Information Officer from the Community Services Division of the Long Beach Fire Department.

The winning department of the pre-game softball competition will not only win a year's worth of bragging rights, but also an inaugural trophy to be displayed at their department's headquarters and their department chief will throw out the first pitch to begin the Armada game that night against the Fullerton Flyers.

"The evening will display the spirit of cooperation between the two departments to all the fans in attendance ... it's a great showing of city pride", said Barry Stockhamer, General Manager of the Long Beach Armada.
