QUICK FACTS:
SERIES RECORD: 5-1 Wave lead over Wichita, 6-1 Wave lead over Missouri
MILWAUKEE COACH: Keith Tozer (645-388/27 seasons)
WICHITA COACH: LeBaron Hollimon (7-10/1 season)
MISSOURI COACH: Kim Roentved (19-20/2 seasons)
THE SKINNY:
The Milwaukee Wave will welcome two division rivals to the U.S. Cellular Arena in hopes of clinching the MISL Central Division. Sitting five games ahead of Missouri and eight ahead of Wichita, one more win will give Milwaukee the division crown.
First up will be Wichita on Friday, a team that is very familiar with the Waves' style of play having faced off six times already. Milwaukee has taken five of the six matches, including all three at home but it has not been easy. In four of the six games, the margin of victory between the clubs has been three or less. In comparison, only one other score for the Wave this season has been within three points when they took down Syracuse 15-12 on Jan. 13.
Sunday will see Missouri get its third attempt at exacting revenge for last season's playoff defeat to Milwaukee. The Comets come in having won three of four and scoring a franchise best 33 points over Syracuse in their last game on Jan. 25. The 16 game delay between games will ensure the Comets come in rested and healthy, but it might also cause a bit of rustiness for an offense that averages 13.5 points per game. Defensively Missouri has been very stout, allowing only 10.68 points per game, third best in the MISL.
Milwaukee goes into the weekend boasting the best offense (16.12 points per game) but surprisingly, doesn't have any players in the top five of the MISL leader board for scoring. The Wave have a perfectly balanced attack with four players recording 40 or more points, seven with at least 30 and 13 with double digits. Milwaukee's distributed scoring makes it difficult for opponents to key in on specific players, because at any moment any player can put the ball in the back of the net. Milwaukee has six players with double-digit assists, with four of them ranking in the top ten in the league. When this team is sharing the ball as well as it has, it will be very difficult to outscore them.
WAVE MILESTONE WATCH:
Josh Rife: 100 career points (99)
Marco Terminesi: 9th on Wave's 3-point goals list (11, needs 1 more)
Greg Howes: 2nd on Wave's 2-point goals list (167, needs 1 more)
J.P. Rodrigues: 100 games played (98)
J.P. Rodrigues: 100 career points (97)
