Miller Commits to the Mavericks

SIOUX CITY, IA - Musketeer forward Matt Miller announced his commitment to play Division I college hockey at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Before this season Miller had verbally committed to Michigan State University, but changes with the program led to him seeking opportunity elsewhere. The Leo, Indiana native didn't let this twist of fate derail his season, however.

Miller turned his search for a new school into a new source of motivation during the season "For sure it motivated me. I was determined. It became my goal, and I was fighting for a chance to play hockey for the future, so I think it helped." So far Miller has been right about that. He has enjoyed a breakout season with Sioux City this year, nearly doubling his point total from last year in just 28 games. In those 28 games, Miller has 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 total points which put him 6th on the team in scoring.

This strong play led to multiple schools expressing their interest in the forward, and before he made his decision, Miller took his time and met with scouts from several programs and took multiple visits to figure out just what he was looking for in a school.

When asked why he chose to join the Mavericks Miller listed a wide variety of reasons "It's a good size school, great hockey program, great community that rallies around the hockey team, great business school, great staff that I felt like I could trust and really believed in me. They also play in great a league, and it's great competition every night."

Outside of the hockey program, Miller noted an excellent modern campus placed in the heart of Omaha as a big reason for making his decision "everything from the dorm to the rink to the business school is all in a central area. They have a lot of new state of the art stuff for everything they do, and I think the players are set up in a really nice situation in Omaha.

Miller even had the chance to visit with former teammate Nate Knoepke who is in his first year with UNO "I did get a chance to talk to Nate for a while when I was visiting, I got to visit his dorm, ask him a lot of questions about the team and school. He was really great in helping make a decision."

You will be able to catch Miller and the rest of the Musketeers in action Thursday night when the Musketeers are set to take on the Force in Fargo. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm.
