Milwaukee Milkmen News Release
Franklin, Wis. - The Milwaukee Milkmen blanked the division leading Chicago Dogs 3-0, and won the series two games to one.
Milwaukee was powered by Jose Espada, who won the Spiderz Batting Gloves Player of the Game after his six inning night where he gave up five hits, one walk, and struck out nine batters without allowing a run.
"I was just in focus," Espada said of his performance. "I made some adjustments to my mechanics after the first couple innings and just made some good pitches to Chicago."
Christian Young, Juan Echevarria and Karch Kowalcyzk each pitched one of the last three innings and all three did not allow a hit to Chicago to ensure the shutout of their rivals.
The three scores for the Milkmen all came in different innings. Mason Davis scored in the first inning when he singled and Correlle Prime hit a double in the next at-bat. Aaron Hill scored in the second inning when he also hit a single and was later driven in by a double, this one off the bat of Bryan Torres. Finally Chad Sedio scored the third run in the seventh inning when he drew a walk and Davis once again sent a run home off of a double.
Milwaukee is now 5-1 in their last six games, and they go on to face the Kansas City Monarchs who own the second-best record in the league. Manager Anthony Barone says that the Milkmen's pitching must stay strong to continue winning.
"You always start with pitching and defense," Barone said. "The last couple series we've been doing a really good job of getting quality starts. It all starts with a good outing from our pitcher."
The Milkmen will play three games in Kansas City and then three games in Chicago before returning to Franklin Field on the 24th for a series against the Gary Southshore Railcats that starts at 6:35 p.m.
Tickets are available at MilwaukeeMilkmen.comor at the Box Office prior to the game.
