Mike Smith Returns from AHL

Lexington, KY- Lexington Men O' War General Manager of Hockey Operations/ Head Coach Jim Wiley announced today goaltender Mike Smith has been returned from the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League.

Smith did not play during his stint in Utah. Smith made his professional debut last Friday in Peoria. The 2001 5th Round (161st Overall) NHL Entry Draft pick of the Dallas Stars stopped 43 of 46 in his first game. The Men O ' war lost 3-2 in overtime. In his second game the goaltender stopped 34 of 37 in a 3-0 Lexington loss. After the game Smith was recalled to Utah to work out with ex-NHL goaltender Andy Moog. Moog formerly suited up for the NHL's Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, and Boston Bruins. Over his career, Moog posted a 372-209-88 record with a 3.13 goals-against-average. His 372 career wins sits in ninth place on the all-time goaltender wins list entering the 2002-03 season. Moog guided the Edmonton Oilers to three Stanley Cup titles (1984, 1985, 1987).

In the two games Smith played he posted a 0-1-1 record with a .927 save percentage. His goals against average was a 2.89 in two games played. Smith returns one day after fellow teammate Dan Murphy returned from Worchester of the AHL.

The Men O' War play their second road game of the season Friday night in Dayton. After taking on the Bombers, the MOW return home on Saturday to host Dayton at 7:30 p.m. Lexington will wrap up their weekend with Richmond at home on Sunday at 6:00.
