Mike McMurtry Arrives with Steelheads

Boise, ID-Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that forward Mike McMurtry has arrived with the Steelheads. McMurtry was assigned to Idaho on Monday afternoon by the AHL's Texas Stars.

McMurtry, 24, is in his first full professional season after a four-year career at Northeastern University. The native of Greely, Ontario has appeared in 26 games this season with AHL Texas, scoring five goals and adding five assists. McMurtry also played in five regular season games and three playoff games with the Stars last year following his senior season at Northeastern, collecting three assists in regular-season play.

The six-foot, 195-pound forward posted 20 goals and 80 points in 141 games at Northeastern, including career-highs in 2015-16 in games (41), goals (8), assists (23), and points (31). McMurtry ranked fourth on the team in scoring and third in assists during the 2015-16 season, helping to lead Northeastern to a Hockey East Conference Championship.

The Steelheads open a three-game series against the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday night, when they will host $2 Beer Night courtesy of Bud Light. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:10pm MT. with the game available on 1350 KTIK, Cable One, and ECHLTV.
