(March 18 - Uniondale, NY) - New York Dragons Offensive Specialist Mike Furrey has been named Offensive Player of the Week following Sunday's 65-57 win in Detroit, the Arena Football League announced today. Furrey, who attended camp with the New York Jets this preseason, finished the game with an AFL season-high 15 receptions for 229 yards, six touchdowns and 288 all-purpose yards. The 15 receptions tied a franchise record set by Mike Horacek on July 15, 2000 vs. the Albany Firebirds. The Columbus, Ohio native currently leads the AFL in scoring with 156 points, 25 receiving touchdowns, 64 receptions and 989 receiving yards.

"I am excited to get an individual award from the Arena Football League, but it was even better to get our first win of the season," said 2002 All-Ironman Mike Furrey who played in front of a bus load of family and friends. "It was especially nice to have such a special game with my family watching me from the stands. I just hope, as a team, we can continue to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves this season."

The award was the first of the season for Furrey, who was named to the AFL's All-Ironman team last season. Furrey has earned "Ironman of the Game" honors twice this season and was tapped as the Game MVP on Sunday.

The Dragons travel to Chicago for a nationally-televised NBC game this Sunday and return home for two weeks, facing John Elway's Colorado Crush Sun., Mar. 30th at Nassau Coliseum. Great seats are still available by calling TicketMaster or through the Dragons' front office at 1-866-AFL-TIXX.
