Local Middle Schoolers, Fury Players to Tour River Rouge Plant on Field Trip

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Local middle school students will get to see how the Motor City earned its name when Fury players Jon McCall, Dary Myricks, Angel Rubio and Lucas Yarnell visit the Ford River Rouge Plant on Friday, March 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. as part of the Fury Field Trips Program. Sixty students from Stout Middle School in Dearborn will tour the plant's facilities while interacting and learning from the Fury players and cheerleaders. Additionally, representatives from Ford and the Fury will speak to the importance of learning science at an early age.

"These kids are going to have a great time and learn about Detroit's bread and butter, the auto industry," said Greg Myford, senior vice president of Fury football. "The Fury wants to be a big part of Detroit, just like the auto plants and workers. We thought we'd show our commitment to the community and students by bringing all these elements together for a fun and educational afternoon."

Students attending the field trip, proudly supported by the Metro Detroit Ford Dealers and Town Mortgage Company, will have the opportunity to learn and gain wisdom by touring the plant with Fury players and cheerleaders. Following the plant tour, Fury players along with Greg Myford and representatives from Ford, will speak with the students about the importance of science and education.

The next Fury Field Trip will be on March 27, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. to Woodland Elementary School in Troy, where Science Theatre, a student science group of Michigan State University will perform an interactive science show involving Detroit Fury players and staff for the students,. The Fury (3-4) are currently tied for first place in the Eastern Division and head on the road to face the expansion Colorado Crush (1-6) on Sunday, March 23, 2003.
