
Mike Easom named hitting coach

Mike Easom, a veteran junior college coach has been named as the hitting coach for the Idaho Falls Chukars for the 2006 season. Easom joins manager Brian Rupp and pitching coach Jose Bautista on the coaching staff. He replaces Theron Todd as hitting coach.
Easom has served as head baseball coach for the past 31 years at Indian River Community College in Florida, while also spending the last 16 years as Athletic Director. His teams at IRCC posted 1036 wins making him the winningest junior college coach in the history of the state of Florida. Easom played four years in professional baseball, two years in the Cleveland Indians organization and two with the Montreal Expos.
He also has worked 6 summers in professional baseball Rookie leagues with 3 different organizations. Serving most recently as the hitting coach for the Staten Island Yankees in 1999. Easom is no stranger to the Pioneer League, having spent the 1985 season as the manager at Helena.
Easom gained recognition as a coach for the 2000 NJCAA All-Star Team, which participated in Japan. In 1992, he was inducted into the St. Lucie County Hall of Fame and in 2000, he was inducted into the FCCAA Hall of Fame. In 2004, Easom was inducted into the NJCAA Baseball Hall of Fame. He resides in Ft. Pierce, Fla. with his wife Linda.
