Mighty Marty Returns to Blazers Lineup

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed centerman Marty Standish, the club's front office announced today.

Standish, a 5-8, 175-pound native of Kelvington, Saskatchewan will be entering his fourth season as a Blazer and fifth as a professional. Last season, the feisty centerman picked up 53 points (24-29-53) and served 174 penalty minutes while playing in all 64 games for Oklahoma City. In three seasons as a Blazer, Standish has amassed 223 points (105-118-223) and served 500 penalty minutes.

Last season produced a series of milestones for Standish. He became the 10th player in Blazers history to surpass the 200-point mark and the seventh to surpass the 100-goal plateau. Standish enters the 2003-04 season ranked eighth on the Blazers all-time scoring list and is one of just six players to record at least 100 points and 100 assists in his tenure with the Blazers. Standish is a two-time CHL All-Star (2001 and 2002) and was a member of the Blazers 2001 CHL championship squad.

"I'm happy to have Marty back in our lineup," said Blazers head coach Doug Sauter. "I expect Marty to have a productive year. His enthusiasm and go-for-it-all attitude will be a big part of an exciting season of Blazers hockey. One of Marty's goals this season is to again be named to the CHL All-Star team."

The addition of Standish brings the total number of players signed for the 2003-04 season to 10. He joins all-star Blair Manning, Bryan Forslund, Ryan Campbell, Tim Laurila, Shane Fukushima, Justin Kot, Mike Lucci and goaltenders Boyd Ballard and Sean Connors.

The Blazers open their 12th training camp at the Blazers Ice Centre on Monday, October 6 at 10 a.m. The Blazers begin the regular season at home on Friday, October 17 against the defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings. Season tickets are available by contacting the Blazers office at 235-PUCK (7825).

NOTE: The Blazers have officially confirmed its 2003 preseason schedule. Oklahoma City will skate on Thursday, October 9 in Wichita at the Thunder's practice facility in downtown Wichita at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. The Blazers travel to Fort Collins, Colo. to take on the expansion Colorado Eagles on October 10 and 11. For information about tickets to the preseason games in Colorado, contact the Eagles' front office. Oklahoma City wraps up its preseason schedule on home ice at the Blazers Ice Centre on Sunday, October 12 at 4 p.m. against the Amarillo Gorillas. Tickets are available at the door for $5.
