Manitoba Moose News Release

Today the Manitoba Moose announced that they have signed goaltender Alfie Michaud (mee-SHOH) to a training camp tryout.

Michaud, 25, was a member of three teams during the 2001-02 season but played predominantly with the Moose. With Manitoba, the Selkirk, MB native posted a 16-10-1 record with a 2.68 Avg. In the 2002 AHL playoffs, Michaud played in all seven Moose contests and had a 3-4 mark with a 2.69 Avg. The 5'10 goalie recorded four shutouts which represents the highest Moose total for a season and all-time. He set a new franchise record for the longest scoreless streak at 126 minutes and 12 seconds. At the end of Manitoba's regular season, Michaud collected enough three stars selections to win the Three Stars Champion award.

The fourth year veteran netminder also served time during last season with the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League. He played 11 matches while recording a 5-3-2 record with 2.58 Avg. and two shutouts. Michaud also dressed for one Vancouver Canucks game but did not see action.

Prior to the Moose, Michaud played two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks affiliates in Kansas City (IHL) and Syracuse (AHL). In 1999-2000, Michaud turned pro and made his NHL debut on October 28, 1999 against Phoenix. The 177 lb. goalie posted one tie in two NHL contests in the 1999-00 season. Michaud played three years at the University of Maine from 1996-99 where he recorded 60 wins, 26 losses and 8 ties. In 1998-99, he posted 28 wins and backstopped the Maine Black Bears to the NCAA national title. In that championship run, Michaud was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team and also named the NCAA Championship MVP.
