Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Wednesday signed goaltender Andrew Allen, center Dustin Whitecotton, right wings Gregor Baumgartner and Rustyn Dolyny, and defenseman Philippe Plante. In addition, the Griffins signed defenseman Bill McCauley to a professional tryout.

All six players are expected to be in Grand Rapids next Monday, September 30, for the opening of Griffins training camp.

Allen, 26, split his rookie 2001-02 campaign between AHL Hershey and Utah and ECHL Macon and Jackson, posting a 2.89 goals against average in seven AHL contests. His 0.945 save percentage and 2.17 GAA for Jackson during the playoffs ranked second and fourth, respectively, among all ECHL netminders.

Whitecotton, 23, finished sixth in the United Hockey League last season with 95 points (37-58-95) and led Missouri in both goals and assists. He also appeared in eight games with the Griffins, contributing one goal. Baumgartner, 23, enters his fourth pro season after posting 20 points (10-10-20) for Utah last year. Dallas' fifth selection in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Baumgartner recently participated with Allen in the Detroit Red Wings' training camp in Traverse City, Mich.

Dolyny, 25, and Plante, 24, helped Muskegon win the UHL championship last season while playing for current Griffins coach Danton Cole. Dolyny, who starred at Michigan State from 1997-01, notched 55 points (30-25-55) during the regular season and chipped in another 11 points (4-7-11) during the Fury's title run.

Plante scored 31 points (8-23-31) in 73 games for Muskegon last season and went scoreless in one game with the Griffins. He has logged time with Grand Rapids in each of the last three seasons, including 63 games for the Griffins' Turner Cup finalist squad in 1999-2000. McCauley, 28, has played seven pro seasons since being drafted by the Boston Bruins in 1995. His 56 points (16-40-56) last season ranked third among ECHL blueliners and helped Dayton to a division crown and a berth in the league finals. McCauley's AHL career includes stops in Providence and Cleveland, where he has totaled 34 points (13-21-34) in 89 contests.
