AHL American Hockey League

Bulldogs Yield to the Queen

Published on September 25, 2002 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... A visit by Queen Elizabeth II has resulted in the postponement of the Hamilton Bulldogs' first two scheduled games of the 2002-03 American Hockey League regular season.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the royal throne, The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting Canada from Oct. 4-15, including an appearance at Hamilton's Copps Coliseum on Oct. 10.

The Bulldogs have postponed their games against the Binghamton Senators (Oct. 11) and Syracuse Crunch (Oct. 13) to accommodate the event.

After royal representatives contacted the Ministry of Canadian Heritage, the Bulldogs organization acted immediately and, with the cooperation of the AHL, the visiting teams and the parent Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers, came up with a speedy resolution, with each party respecting the prestige of such an event.

"The Hamilton Bulldogs are proud to play a role in such an historic event for Hamiltonians, and as good corporate citizens have respected the wishes of the Heritage Minister," stated Ron Foxcroft, Vice-Chairperson of the Board for the Hamilton Bulldogs LLP. No dates have yet been announced for the re-scheduling of the two postponed games.
