MIAMI - The Miami FC hosted the San Francisco Deltas in the first match of a doubleheader, tying with their western rivals 1-1 at Riccardo Silva Stadium, Wednesday night.

The Orange and Blue got off to a patented hot start, forcing a save out of Deltas goalkeeper Romuald Peiser in the sixth minute on a Stéfano Pinho shot after Vincenzo Rennella set him up with a perfectly weighted through ball.

Their next shot would end up in the back of the net in the 10th minute. A Michel free kick was floated into the box, misplayed by Peiser and thumped into the goal by Rennella, who was making his first start since July 29. Rennella's goal was his 11th of the season, fortifying his spot as the second-best scorer in the NASL.

After the goal, a torrential downpour ensued for about 15 minutes, and it would cost Miami its lead as it was tough to play efficiently.

San Francisco equalized in the 20th minute when Miami defender Rhett Bernstein conceded a penalty by slightly mistiming a tackle on Deltas forward Pablo Dyego in the box. Stepping up to take the penalty he earned, Dyego sent Miami goalkeeper Daniel Vega the other way and slotted it home from 12 yards out to tie the match at 1-1.

The tightly contested affair saw few chances on both sides due to excellent defending in open play and on set pieces. The match went into halftime 1-1.

With the rain a thing of the past, the contest opened up a bit in the second half, as both teams were able to execute their offensive game plans.

The Deltas controlled possession during the early portion of the second half, but the first real threat from either team came in the 60th minute, when Michel chipped a brilliant ball over the top of the defense to hit Pinho in stride. Pinho volleyed from an awkward angle and forced a save from Peiser that rebounded back to Pinho, who uncorked a scissor kick that Peiser parried away to keep the match at 1-1.

Both teams enjoyed their own spells of possession and attacking, and both goalkeepers made several saves that kept the match tied. Vega, in particular, was increasingly confident when saving shots and intervening on set pieces.

Miami would get the final clear-cut chance of the match. A pinpoint Rennella cross pierced through the defense and located Jaime Chávez in the box, but Chávez's final touch didn't have enough power on it to steer the ball into the goal.

The close match would finish 1-1, with both teams taking home a point before they meet again at the same locale on Saturday.

The Miami FC hosts the Deltas again on Saturday, October 7 at Riccardo Silva Stadium before traveling north to face Indy Eleven on Saturday, October 14. Get your tickets now at  MiamiFC.com/Tickets
