NEW YORK CITY & MEXICO CITY - Defending Mexican League champions Club América and seven-time English Premier League champions Aston Villa Football Club will face off in the Leagues Cup Showcase on Saturday, August 3 (4:30 p.m. local) at Chicago's famed Soldier Field.
Tickets will go on sale Thursday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. local via www.Ticketmaster.com. Fans are invited to contact the Chicago Fire for exclusive ticket packages that include the Leagues Cup Showcase with Fire regular season matches. Call 888-MLS-FIRE or go to ChicagoFireFC.com for more information.
Leagues Cup Showcase sets the stage for Leagues Cup 2024 - the second edition of the official club competition this summer between all Major League Soccer and LIGA MX clubs - with international matches that will include participation from current league champions Club America (LIGA MX) and the Columbus Crew (MLS), who have earned a bye into the Leagues Cup 2024 Round of 32. The Crew and America will face Aston Villa on July 27 and August 3, respectively, as preparation matches ahead of their participation in the World Cup-style official Concacaf tournament. The LIGA MX and MLS champions both begin their Leagues Cup 2024 run on August 9.
Club América, Mexico's winningest club with 14 domestic LIGA MX championships, are the defending champions after winning the Apertura 2023 season, defeating Tigres UANL. América, coached by André Jardine, are led by Mexico National Team forward Henry Martin, LIGA MX standout Alvaro Fidalgo, and former LA Galaxy player Jonathan Dos Santos.
Aston Villa is one of the most successful and historic clubs in English football, most notably winner of seven League Premier League titles and seven FA Cup championships. Led by four-time UEFA Europa League winner and Spanish coach Unai Emery, Aston Villa is comprised of 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, English striker Ollie Watkins, and Spanish rising talent Alex Moreno.
