Mets Win First Two at Jetblue Park

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 12, 2014) - The Fort Myers Miracle dropped a pair of games against the St. Lucie Mets in the first set played at JetBlue Park in an atypical doubleheader on Tuesday evening.
In game one, the Miracle and Mets resumed in the top of the fifth inning from June 26. The Miracle were leading 3-2 with one out in the fifth when rain prevented play from continuing at Hammond Stadium.
After play resumed at JetBlue Park, B.J. Hermsen relieved Miracle starter Tim Shibuya and retired the final two outs of the fifth. The Miracle picked up a run in the bottom of the inning. Aderling Mejia led off with a walk and stole second base. Mets reliever Jake Kuebler struck out Niko Goodrum, but Travis Harrison poked a single into right to score Mejia and put the Miracle up 4-2.
The Mets got a run in the sixth on a RBI double from Maikis De La Cruz off the wall in left field.
Fort Myers pushed the lead to three runs in the seventh. With one out, Goodrum doubled into right center field. Kuebler got Harrison to ground out to third, but gave up an infield hit to Jason Kanzler. With runners on the corners, Adam Brett Walker hit a slow roller up the middle. Shortstop Gavin Cecchini tried to get the force out at second base, but Kanzler beat the throw and Walker picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice. Dalton Hicks followed with a single through the left side to push the Miracle lead to 6-3.
St. Lucie roared back with three runs in the eighth to tie the game. Miracle reliever Tyler Jones allowed a double to Cole Frenzel to start the frame. After striking out Cecchini and getting De La Cruz to pop out, Jones (2-3) surrendered a line drive single to Jeff McNeil for a RBI. Eudy Pina then launched his second home run of the game with a two-run blast, 6-6. The homer for Pina came in the same game, but on different days and at two separate stadiums.
Jones remained in the game in the ninth, but allowed two runs to score. L.J. Mazzilli led off with a double and moved to third on a ground out from Jared King. Cam Maron walked and then Frenzel blooped a double to right that landed on the line. Mazzilli scored. After a walk to Cecchini, Jones surrendered a sacrifice fly to De La Cruz to left to put the Mets lead at 8-6.
Dario Alvarez recorded the final five outs of the game to earn the victory. Alvarez (1-0) walked one and struck out two.
Jones went two innings and gave up five runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.
In game two, St. Lucie jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first on a Gavin Cecchini grand slam off Miracle starter Ethan Mildren. Cecchini blasted a 2-0 pitch over the Green Monster replica in left.
The Mets extended the lead to 5-0 on a RBI single from Mazzilli in the second.
Tyler Grimes got the Miracle on the board with a three-run homer in the third. Jairo Rodriguez started with a single off Mets starter Seth Lugo. Mejia followed with a base hit up the middle. Grimes then hammered an 0-1 pitch to deep left field over the monster, 5-3. The homer was Grimes' second of the season. Walker added a run in the third with a RBI single off the wall in left, 5-4.
St. Lucie and Fort Myers traded runs in the fourth. The Mets got a run on the second RBI single of the evening from Mazzilli and Harrison knocked in a run with a base hit to right for the Miracle, 6-5.
Lugo (7-1) earned the win after going five innings and allowing five runs on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Paul Sewald pitched two perfect frames in the sixth and seventh to earn his eighth save.
Mildren (2-2) lasted five innings and surrendered six runs, four earned, on seven hits. Madison Boer and D.J. Johnson each tossed scoreless frames out of the Miracle pen.
The Miracle (70-50, 29-22) host the Mets for another doubleheader on Wednesday with game one set for 5:05 p.m. at JetBlue Park. Game two will follow approximately 30 minutes after the completion of game one. All ladies will receive free admission. The Miracle are teaming up with the International Middle Child Union for Middle Child Appreciation Night. All middle children will get in free.
