Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

(Allentown, Pa.) - New York Mets' RHP Tim Redding is scheduled to begin a Major League rehab assignment with a start in Game Two of a doubleheader between the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Buffalo Bisons at Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday, May 5. Game One of the doubleheader will start at 6:05 p.m., with Game Two starting approximately 30 minutes later. Redding was placed on the Disabled List to begin the season after suffering a right rotator cuff strain in Spring Training.

Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.

Field Level and General Admission tickets still remain for Tuesday night's doubleheader against Buffalo and can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. Prices for single-game tickets remain identical to 2008 and start as low as $6 for General Admission, granting fans access to the Capital BlueCross Lawn seating area and standing room only areas. Field Level reserved seats are just $9. Tuesday is also Cinco De Mayo Maraca giveaway (first 3,000 adults 18 and older) presented by Verizon Wireless.

Redding was signed by New York to a one-year, $2.25 million contract this past off-season after going 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA for the Washington Nationals last season. In 2008, the 31-year old did not miss a turn in the rotation while establishing career-highs in starts (33), innings pitched (182.0) and strikeouts (120). Most impressively, the Nationals (59-102, .364) went 20-13 (.606) in his starts.

Redding was originally selected by the Houston Astros in the 20th round of the 1997 June draft and went 3-1 with a 5.50 ERA during his rookie season in 2001. The Rochester, N.Y., native had a breakout season with the Astros in 2003, posting 10 wins and a 3.68 ERA while finishing second on the Astros' staff in innings pitched (176.0) and starts (32).

In parts of seven seasons at the Major League level, Redding has pitched for Houston, San Diego, New York (AL) and Washington and compiled a 34-51 mark with a 4.92 ERA. In 11 career starts against Philadelphia, Redding is an impressive 5-3 with a 3.29 ERA. As a piece of remote baseball trivia, Redding surrendered Barry Bonds' 757th career home run - one after Hank Aaron's record was broken.
