Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC - Central Carolina showers put a halt to any chances of a Bulls comeback Monday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park as their game between the Charlotte Knights gets cut of early with Durham losing, 8-3.

While a Bulls' resurgence would have been unlikely, especially after Charlotte scored eight unanswered runs in the first seven and a half innings, Durham did put together a three-run inning in the bottom of the seventh before the rain began to fall.

Durham's first run in the seventh came when Chris Nowak doubled to left-center scoring Adam Kennedy from third and moving Ray Olmedo from first to third. One batter later, a wild pitch plated Olmedo and moved Nowak to third. The last run of the Bulls rally in the seventh came form a Reid Brignac single scoring Nowak for the finale run of the game with the score 8-3.

For the second-straight day, the Bulls opponents got an early lead in the first inning off an unearned run. After retiring the first two-batters, Bulls starting pitcher Carlos Hernandez allowed Charlotte's Josh Kroeger to single to center field. The two straight wild pitches allowed Kroeger to move from first to third, eventually scoring on a single to take a 1-0 lead in the first.

Hernandez (0-2) was chased in the fourth after giving up four more runs, this time all of them coming as earned. He finished the day allowing five runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings. Chad Orvella pitched two and a third innings in relief, allowing three runs on three hits. Jason Childers got two outs in the eighth before the game was halted.

RHP Carlos Torres (3-1) picked up the win allowing now runs on four hits in five innings of work.

The Bulls and Knights finish their two-game set on Tuesday at 1:05 PM. Tickets are available at www.durahmbulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
