PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets snapped a three-game losing skid and won their first home game of the season at Clover Park with an 8-3 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday.
The Mets offense erupted to score all eight runs in the first two innings. The Mets led 5-0 five batters into the bottom of the first inning. Jett Williams led off with a single and came in to score when Kevin Villavicencio ripped a triple for a 1-0 lead.
Jacob Reimer followed with a RBI single to make it 2-0. Carlos Dominguez came to the plate and crushed a two-run homer for a 4-0 advantage. Junior Tilien made it back-to-back home runs with a towering shot to left that made it 5-0 before an out was recorded.
The damage was done against Lakeland starter Chris Williams, who recovered to get the next two batters out before being taken out of the game.
Tilien wacked a two-run double in the second inning to increase the Mets lead to 8-0. Tilien went 2 for 4 with a homer, double and two RBI.
Mets starter Douglas Orellana pitched free and easy with a big lead. He held the Flying Tigers to one infield hit over 4.0 scoreless innings. Orellana has now pitched 8.0 scoreless innings this season and has given up just two hits.
Joe Joe Rodriguez followed Orellana with 2.0 hitless innings to get the win.
Elliot Johnstone pitched the final three innings to earn the save. Lakeland scored three runs in the ninth but Johnstone induced a double play ball to end the game.
Williams went 1 for 2 and reached base four times. He walked twice and was hit by a pitch for the fifth time this season. He leads the FSL in the category.
The Mets (4-7) and Flying Tigers (5-6) continue their series at Clover Park on Thursday. It's Dollar Night with $1 Bud Light draft at the concession stand, $2 Bud and Bud Light aluminum bottles (16 oz.), $2 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 popcorn. First pitch is 6:10 p.m.
