Mets Sweep Doubleheader vs. Fire Frogs

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets completed a doubleheader sweep of the Florida Fire Frogs on Sunday at Osceola County Stadium.

The Mets snuffed out seventh inning rallies in both games, taking down the Fire Frogs 5-4 in game 1 and 4-2 in game 2.

In the first game, the Mets scored single runs in five of the seven innings all on two-out hits. John Mora hit a RBI triple in the top of the sixth to make it 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth Mora made a diving catch in center field with a runner on third base to preserve at 4-3 lead.

Peter Alonso added a crucial insurance run in the top of the seventh with a RBI infield single that made it 5-3.

Florida scored an unearned run against Tyler Bashlor in the ninth, but Bashlor was able to get a ground out from Matt Gonzalez to end the game and strand the tying run on second base. It was Bashlor's sixth save in six chances.

Mets starter Andrew Church got the win. He held the Fire Frogs to three runs in six innings.

In game 2, John Mora scored in the first inning then hit a three-run triple in the second inning to put the Mets up 4-0.

That was enough for Mets starter Marcos Molina. He cruised through six innings and gave up one unearned run.

The Fire Frogs scratched across a run off Craig Missigman in the seventh to make it 4-2. Johnny Magliozzi came on and got Tyler Neslony to strike out to end the game with the tying run on first base.

Mora, Dale Burdick and Wuilmer Becerra had two hits apiece in the second game.

Every player who came to the plate for the Mets in the doubleheader recorded at least one hit.

The Mets (29-27) are two games above .500 for the first time this season. They have won 10 of their last 13 games. The Mets and Fire Frogs (22-35) are scheduled to play a single nine-inning game on Monday at Osceola County Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
